PNU Applied Linguistics and

English Language Education Society

The PNU APPLIED LINGUISTICS AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION SOCIETY, henceforth PALELES, is a program-based organization of PNU graduate students specializing in Applied Linguistics, and English Language Education at the Philippine Normal University. It was founded in 2016. 
 
 
PALELES aims to
  1. promote unity and excellence amongst Applied Linguistics and English Language Education graduate students of the Philippine Normal University;

  2. develop and maintain sustainability on the theories and practices in Applied Linguistics and English Language Education in both local and international levels;

  3. provide an avenue for professional growth and development of the graduate students in but not limited to research presentations, research publications, extensions, and so on in the field of Applied Linguistics and English Language Education;

  4. encourage community engagement to the graduate students in the areas of Applied Linguistics, English Language Education, and other related areas.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  1. Icon. The icon is the logo of the PNU APPLIED LINGUISTICS AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION SOCIETY. The logo is an emblem of the society’s motto: UNITE, EXCEL, SUSTAIN.

  2. Torch and Stars. The golden torch with its vivid fire and golden stars at the center altogether embody EXCEL. The golden torch represents the society’s relentless advocacy for constant excellence; Its fire, vibrant and burning, stands for the light that illuminates the stock of wisdom in Applied Linguistics and English Language Education, lighting and leading the path of graduate students for future generations; The golden stars symbolize the society’s victory towards and of excellence in the fields.

  3. People. The people with different colors holding each other represent UNITE. As the people have different colors, they personify the composition and amalgamation of graduate students specializing in Applied Linguistics and English Language Education who originate from the different regions of the Philippines, uniting for excellence; Equally significant, the people mean that any graduate student may come to imbibe excellence into the fields’ stock of wisdom.

  4. Leaves. The laurel leaves, supporting the golden torch and stars, signify SUSTAIN. The two laurel leaves are an emblem of the sustainable achievement of unity and excellence for professional growth and development in Applied Linguistics and English Language Education.

  5. Year. Twenty-sixteen (2016) is the founding year of the society.

THE FOUNDING OFFICERS AND ADVISER

Facilitated by Dr. Arceli M. Amarles as Adviser of PALELES (5th from the left), the Applied Linguistics and English Language Education cluster elected its founding officers on September 17, 2016. The founding officers are: Hjalmar P. Hernandez as President (4th from the right), Ma. Therese B. Carandang as Internal Vice President (2nd from the right), Leonardo O. Munalim as External Vice President (4th form the left), Riza S. Reyteran as Secretary (3rd from the right), Ace Christian M. Dilag as Tresurer (1st from the right), John Paul O. Dela Rosa as Public Relations Officers (1st from the left), Ailene F. de Leon as Business Manager (3rd from the left), and Mary Ann J. Tinay as Auditor (2nd from the left).
