January 09, 2017

Hjalmar Punla Hernandez

Dr. Arceli M. Amarles, Adviser of the PALELES, and Mr. Hjalmar P. Hernandez, President of PALELES, had their papers published in the Philippine Journal of Linguistics (PJL) 2016, Volume 47. PJL is the official scholarly internationally peer-reviewed journal of the Linguistic Society of the Philippines (LSP), established in 1969 and affiliated with the International Association of Applied Linguistics.

With respect to multilingualism, MTB-MLE (Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education), and the English language, Dr. Amarles’s study argues that public school teachers’ voices must be heard in order to meet an effective operation of any language policy. Filling-in the lacuna between sociolinguistics and computer-mediated communication, Mr. Hernandez’s paper scrutinizes the speech acts of academic debating on Facebook, and analyzes its merits and complexities.

The said articles are now available at http://www.lsphil.net/2016-index. Hard copies can be purchased via linguisticsocietyphil@gmail.com.
